TransSupport
We provide free, confidential and voluntary support sessions for transgender youth aged 14-24 (with some potential exceptions). Separate sessions for parents and family members take place at the same location.
Why we do it...
Our aim is to provide youth and their family members with safe, supportive and open environments so they can receive much-needed emotional and practical support as they navigate this life transition.
How we work...
Our group facilitators have a wide spectrum of lived experience as trans people. They strive to tailor sessions to the needs and circumstances of those in attendance through a combination of trans-specific resources and supports, as well as social time through games, sharing and special events such as make-up and hair nights, karaoke, jamming, and other activities.
Where we do it...
We provide support groups for trans and gender-questioning youth and a separate group for their parents/guardians in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge twice a month respectively, and a join parent/youth group in New Westminster once a month. Please contact us for times and locations.
What we do…
We provide a safe space for youth to gather together. Through facilitated conversations youth are provided with the information, resources, and advice they need to transition successfully. Our groups are also a space for youth to socialize with trans peers as well as seek support and guidance from facilitators with lived trans experience. Parents and family members of transgender youth also meet separately to share their own experiences, offer support and to let each other know that they are not alone.
