Kinnections

Kinnections is a program for young adults aged 19+ who live in Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows, and who are transitioning to independence from MCFD guardianship or a Youth Agreement.

Why we do it...

The goal is to assist these young adults to develop the resiliency they need to overcome the risk factors they face in their lives, and ultimately for them to make good choices despite challenging circumstances.

Where we do it...

This service is provided as part of an integrated network of outreach services delivered in Katzie First Nations Communities, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows.

Who funds us...

Kinnections is funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

What we do…

We recruit, screen and train caring adult volunteers to mentor these young adults on a one-to-one basis.  Our screening process involves at least two interviews, three references and a police record check.

Our mentors are trained in first aid and receive ongoing training, support and supervision to help them be the best mentors they can be.

How we work…

Or mentors spend time developing supportive relationships with their mentees, encouraging them to participate in activities that allow them to experience success and modelling positive behaviours.   The best way for these important relationships to develop is for mentors and mentees to regularly spend time together, about once a week for around three hours, and for this time to be spent having fun.

How to Access

We accept referrals from probation officers and social workers working for the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). Call 604 476 2820 to make a referral.
