Specialized Residential Services
U-turn is a comprehensive and dynamic program for young people facing significant behavioural and developmental challenges.
It is geared especially to those who have not experienced success in other residential settings.
Because the young people who come to this program have such varied needs, we create an individually tailored program of services specifically for each one and combine appropriate services with staff supported caregiver homes.
It is important to create a safe, nurturing and positive environment where young people can develop skills, comfort and trust.
We work with young people, their guardians, social workers and other important people in their lives to develop a service plan that is sensitive to their culture and life experiences.
This plan is centered on their individual ideas, interests and perspectives. We focus on the full range of developmental outcomes—physical, emotional, spiritual, educational, behavioural and cognitive.
Placement in a staff—supported caregiver home creates structure and consistency that builds on young people’s comfort and experiences—while remaining flexible and adaptable to their evolving needs and strengths. This consistent, caring team support reinforces pro-social attitudes and behaviour. It helps maintain positive connections with peers, families and with home communities.
The first step in creating change in a young person’s life is referral from a professional such as a Social Worker, Probation Officer, Resource Worker or other professional involved with the young person. U-turn accepts both male and female participants who have not experienced success in other residential placements. We accept referrals and admit participants on an ongoing basis.
